The Auric Field:
A Crucial Part of Health & Vitality

We all have auric fields. The auric field (also known as the aura) is a part of our system that extends beyond the body and penetrates the body. Truly, it is an energy that surrounds all matter.

If you think about, it all matter has an atomic structure that gives off energy.

As an aside: before you start thinking this is all woo-woo, consider the following:

You walk into a room after a couple were fighting. They may tell you everything is fine, but you feel a bad vibe. Or, you may sense someone’s presence when they walk up behind you. Those are cases when you sense an aura.

Everything you have experienced in life lies within the aura.

When we have negative thoughts and feelings (created consciously or subconsciously) that stick around or are intense they typically manifest in the auric field as holes or tears (negative ki). This is the beginning of disease.

Some other things that can weaken the aura and manifest holes or tears (negative ki) are:

  • Poor diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Lack of sufficient rest
  • Stress
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Smoking
  • Negative habits

As the negative ki sticks around, it can be strengthened by other negative thoughts or negative experiences.

When that happens, the negative ki moves into your chakras (see chakra balancing ). If the negative ki is not healed or dealt with, it can move into the physical body as disease.

For permanent healing to occur, work on the aura must be included rather than just work at the physical level.

Auric fields have multiple levels that operate at a particular vibration.

The first level is the one closest to the physical body. The first level is associated with the root chakra which has to do with survival, vitality and our physical health.

The second level is associated with the sacral chakra which has to do with enjoyment, the attractive part in relationships, and sexuality.

Reiki practitioners will scan the body at these different levels to determine where there is an energy blockage. They do this by sensing the energy with their hands.

Upon discovering a blockage, they will facilitate self-healing in the auric field and the chakras (see chakra balancing ). The energy will go where it is needed.

I want to make one last point before moving on.

When we are tired and depleted, our auras may only extend out a couple of feet. When we are rested and enjoying life or just had a Reiki session, our auric fields can extend out several feet.

Characteristics of the Aura

The characteristics are

  • All auras have a unique frequency that varies in intensity for each individual.

    If the frequency of your aura is similar to another, there is a great rapport. If the frequencies differ, then there may be an initial dislike for the other person.

  • Your aura interacts with those of another person. Every time you interact with another person, you exchange energy with them.

    If you are unaware of this or let the interactions affect you, and you interact with a lot of people in a day, you may have picked up some energy that is not yours. This could leave you feeling drained by the end of the day.

  • The human energy field can interact with the energy field of plants, animals, and minerals. Being around nature cleanses and balances your aura.

    In some cultures, people swam in the ocean when they got sick. Also, it has been discovered that people’s blood pressure decreased after petting animals.

  • The energy exchange is greater the more people interact with an individual, animal, or nature.

    As an example – my current car didn’t feel like it was my car until I had it for about a month.

    As another example - I don’t get the same good night’s rest if I spend the night at someone's home in the middle of a city vs. my home.

    In other cases, a group’s energy is greater than an individual’s. The more contact an individual has with a particular group, the more his or her aura is going to start working at the same frequency as the rest of the group.

  • Auras are a reflection of a person’s physical, mental, and spiritual state.

    When your aura is weak, you are more vulnerable to what happens in your interactions with people and what happens in your environment. As an example, the closing of a door may sound much louder to you than normal and become a source of irritation.


Strengthening & Balancing the Aura

There are many ways to strengthen and balance your auric field. Reiki Therapy and/or alternative energy healing sessions are a great way to restore balance.

If this is something you want to try for yourself, you can put yourself around nature. You can also listen to uplifting classical music, a Gregorian chant, or to a CD with people chanting Om.

Other things you can do are exercise, get fresh air, maintain a healthy diet, and keep the colon cleaned out.

Something that many Reiki practitioners do is burn sage, using the smoke and fragrance to cleanse a room and people's auric fields. This is called smudging (see smudging ceremony ).
